A Year To Go To Complete The O

On Friday March 27th 2011, 53,000 fans turned up to the MCG to watch Carlton take on Melbourne for a night that will not be forgotten in a very long time.

In conjunction with the AFL, this event was a major fundraiser for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre and we raised $173,000 from the match and lead up media, which contributed to an overall monthly fundraising total of $535,000 towards the “Year to Go to Complete the O” campaign.

Whilst Melbourne Football Club may not have had their best night on the field, their president Jim Stynes off field was a truly remarkable inspiration and we were honoured that he believed the show must go on and took to the stage even after such a major operation only days prior.

Olivia Newton-John gave a spectacular performance of her hits Magic and Xanadu and was joined on stage by not one but two leading men, Jim Stynes and Russell Robertson for a brilliant version of You’re the One That I Want, which bought the crowd to its feet and I am sure a few tears to the eyes as well, to see Jim up on stage.

A huge part of the night’s success goes to our Tin Rattlers who braved the cold on a typically chilly Melbourne Autumn night to raise $12,000. So a big thanks to them but also a big thanks to the public who supported us and made this such a special event.

VIP Experience with Olivia Newton-John

In addition to the game itself, a select few enjoyed a VIP experience with Olivia Newton-John.  The VIP package included:

  • Reserved seating and entry to the game
  • An intimate pre match cocktail party
  • A sacred journey onto the hallowed turf of the MCG to meet Olivia in person
  • A group photo with Olivia
  • Up close and personal positioning at Olivia’s pre match concert
  • Half time refreshments in the Melbourne Football Club Boardroom
  • A VIP gift bag

A memorable night for everyone.  Thanks again.
